On February 11th, we invited academics and practitioners of criminal justice, child rights and legal aids to attend the conference “Legal Aid for Children in Criminal Proceedings: child-friendly legal aid in focus”. The main objective of this conference was to provide an overview of the access to legal aid in the EU and in different national contexts as well as sharing recommendations and best practices regarding this crucial topic.
The online conference was organised by the Law Institute of the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences together with the LA child project partners from (DCI-Belgium and the Centre for Integrated Legal Services and Practices (CILSP) Albania). We were delighted to gather almost 200 participants from all over the world, including representatives of the European Commission, European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Presentations were delivered by several prominent experts, law professionals, practitioners specialising in the field of legal assistance for minors, members of the academic community and representatives of key international organizations and institutions, such as the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, European Commission, the European Criminal Bar Association, the UNODC, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Lithuania and many others.
It was thrilling to see that an online international conference covering the issues of quality legal aid for minors attracted not only a group of brilliant speakers but also an interested large audience of participants.
